Purpose
Just as people all over the world celebrate Earth Day on 22 April each year as an expression of clean and healthy and beautiful environment; similarly, Auroville Week should be celebrated all over the world between 22nd and 28th February as an expression of love and solidarity for Auroville’s futuristic vision, aspiration, ideals and her potentiality for strengthening human hope and unity, for world’s supreme renaissance.
Explanation
Renowned Indian figure of his times, J.R.D. Tata summed up the views of many when he said “Auroville is not an idea. It is the future, the future of the world.” Hence, if Auroville emerges as a crown-jewel of humanity, it will be good for humanity and its future. With this view, a week following the Mother’s birthday (21st February) till Auroville’s inauguration day on 28th should be celebrated with joy and enthusiasm as Auroville Week with numerous creativities. 21st February may be regarded as a day of launch pad. Then, from 22nd February, the celebrations commence culminating on 28th.
Present status
Auroville Week is already being organized and celebrated in Auroville since quite a few years, especially after the arrival of a new secretary of the Auroville Foundation Jayati Ravi. This should now grow and expand to other places in India and abroad.
