Town-planning for Transforming India (TPTI) – a small institution
Purpose
To propagate the benefits of relatively small human settlements and cities for India’s urban development drawing upon ideas from Sri Aurobindo’s writings
Explanation
India is the throes of immense migration from rural to urban area. Hence, institutions are set up and researches are carried out for the appropriate models of urban development. In some of the chapters of his book “The Ideal of Human Unity”, Sri Aurobindo, while discussing the past history of mankind, has brought out multiple benefits of self-regulating small communities, small human settlements, small cities as against mega-cities. TPTI seeks to propagate those ideas, contextualizing them with the Auroville’s city model so as to provide hints for an ideal urban planning model that can bring out best potentialities of all citizens and the emergence of the soul of India.
To this end, a website will be created. Depending on the collaboration, a magazine may be started for best practices and policies among the urban planners. Aryadeep’s research paper ‘Town-planning for Transforming India – a study in Sri Aurobindo’s Light’, published by a German research magazine will be shared with the urban policy planners in India.
